The disturbing news is that 26 former harness racing trotters and pacers are weighed and tagged for a horrific end at the Canadian slaughter plants.
They are currently in the Shippensburg, PA pen. The owner of the pen is Bruce Rotz. While a formal deadline was not provided, it is likely in a few days. One can easily Google his telephone number and reach out to him directly. Some are in rough condition such as Radiant Wind who clearly has served both racing and the rural area for nearly 20 years.
Every horse needs a home. They can be purchased directly from the kill pen. SRF can provide information for shippers to help move a horse to safety, and facilities to temporarily hold horses.
For this information email SRFadoption@gmail.com. SRF is already helping a few from this group.
SRF hopes each horse can be saved, and is so saddened that 34 years of helping these noble warriors hasn’t changed anything to prevent their lives from being treated in such an appalling way.
The good news at the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) is that hay is on the way to ward off the crisis, thanks to wonderful donors. Hopefully, the rain will really arrive and drench the fields everywhere grass is needed for the near future. The generous hay relief carries SRF’s 520 horses through the middle of July.
