Another three groups of harness racing horses began their journeys in two-year-old races at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (Jun. 27).
The first was Tequila Sunset (Muscle Mass). Bob McClure steered the trotting filly to a coast-to-coast victory in 2:04.1. She held off Sonar Seelster (Tyler Borth) down the stretch and was a half-length up at the finish. Tactical Princess (Gino Toscani) finished third. Tequila Sunset is trained by Blake Macintosh for Tim Klemencic of Trenton and Hurts So Good Stable of Princeton. They bought the filly for $120,000 from the Lexington Select sale. Sheās out of the lightly-raced Credit Winner dam Hustle Heart, who has now produced four winners from four starters, including Breeders Crown runner-up Fly Light.
TEQUILA SUNSET REPLAY
Manhawk (Stag Party, McClure) and Captain Fear Not (Chris Christoforou) tasted racing drama for the first time in the second division. Captain Fear Not pulled out in close quarters with Manhawk coming around the final turn, took the lead, and held him off down the stretch. However, the judges launched an inquiry, and he was disqualified for interference after appearing to put a wheel into the second-place finisher. Manhawk inherited the win and an initial mark of 1:58.2. Captain Fear Not was relegated to second. Supplemental Fee (James MacDonald) soared home in :27 to complete the ticket.
MANHAWK REPLAY
M and L Of Delaware LLC, based in Wilmington, paid $22,000 for Manhawk at Harrisburg. The colt is out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Bring A Ring and is her first starter and second foal. Scott McEneny trains him.
Eli Waglerās āretirement dreamā made a big step forward as Myretirementdream (Il Sogno Dream) won his second start by open lengths in 1:57.2. Trevor Henry took the colt to the top in the second panel, guided him to kick away coming down the lane, and the colt cruised to a two-and-three-quarter-length score in 1:57.2. Soar Higher (Matt Bax) was second-best. Alexander (James MacDonald) was nine-and-a-half lengths back of the winner in third.
MYRETIREMENTDREAM REPLAY
Wagler owns and bred Myretirementdream, whoās out of familiar former Mohawk regular Myretirementticket. That Cornaro Dasolo mare was also a Wagler homebred and was an Ontario Sires Stakes contender at two and three. Myretirmentdream debuted at Sarnia on Jun. 3 and finished second in 2:00 against older horses. The Tuesday win was Waglerās first of the year.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will host more two-year-old racing on its next card on Thursday, Jun. 28. The 10-race program will begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
