Warrawee Needy, one of the most proved harness racing sires available to NSW breeders, will stand this season at the newly established Artistic Lodge in the Bathurst region, conducted by experienced horse people Jody Bryant and Cindy Bourke.
Warrawee Needy established a world record of 1:46.8 in 2013 ā matching Somebeachsomewhereās mark set five years earlier ā and earned 1,258,027. He is the third fastest horse ever to stand stud in this country, behind only Lather Up and Always B Miki.
He competed with real distinction for five seasons and included among his victories the Ontario Sires Stake Super 2YO Final and the OSS Gold Final on three occasions (he was voted the top Canadian pacer of his age that year, the OSS Gold Final at three years and the Mohawk Gold Cup and a world record in the William Haughton Memorial elimination at four.
With his oldest stock only five-year-olds, the outcross sire has left 51 individual winners from 75 starters for $1.75million in stakes, an average of $23,400 per starter.
Among his winners have been a NSW Breeders Challenge Blue and Pink Diamond winner in Ideal In Dreams 1:52.6 ($120,439), the dual Group winner Uncle Shank (1:50.4), who has won 16 races and $162,953, the NSW Breeders Challenge Blue winners Saveeon 1:52.8 ($136,611) and Warrawee Drinking (1:54), Miss Froufrou (1:55.8), winner of the $65,000 APG Gold Bullion, Im So Needy (Go Girlfriend Series).
Other winners sired by Warrawee Needy include the talented youngster Misterfourthousand (1:57.8), the winner of two of his three starts including a heat of the Bathurst Gold Crown, The Grogfather 1:53 (12 wins to date) and the Melton winner Hurricane Hussler (1:54.9).
And, in America, he has sired 14 in the 1:55 list and the winners of almost $1.7million from only 87 foals of racing age.
On the score of blood, Warrawee Needy lacks nothing. His sire E Deeās Cam (1:48.6), a son of the great Cam Fella, was a top flight pacer with stake earnings of $864,767.
Great Memories, the dam of Warrawee Needy, has been one of the gems of the American stud book. She is the dam of nine individual winners, four of whom took records of better than 1:50, including the dual Breeders Crown champion and 2YO and 3YO Filly of the Year Warrawee Ubeaut 1:48.6 ($1,849,213), the Stakes winner Warrawee Vital (1:46.8) and Big Bay Point (1:49).
