CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a first-over steer, Jessiejesorjessica (Justice Hall) landed on top of the harness racing featured Open Trot on Thursday (July 6) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
David Dowling was in the driver’s seat as the Justice Hall mare wore down pacesetter and post time favourite New Legacy (Driven by Adam Merner) to win in 1:58.2. Jennifer Doyle co-owns and trains the winning mare with co-owner Danny Birt of Vernon Bridge. Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy) was third.
Doyle had a training triple on the night as Elm Grove Mistress (Jason Hughes) won race 11 in 1:58 and Java was a winner in race 7 in 1:56.3 in line to Dowling.
Race 1 went to Saulsbrook Abbey from the Saul Lanigan barn in 1:56.3 as part of a Dowling driving triple.
Fiftini captured the Race 6 trot in Memory of Paul McKinnon, Director Emeritus of the United States Trotting Association, presented by the Sandstone Senior Club. The $2,300 Trot class saw Hughes guide his trainee to a front-end score of 1:59.1 for owner John Collings of Brudenell. Hughes doubled up from his barn with Summer Lovin taking a new record of 1:57.4 in race 2.
Driver Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie clicked for a pair of wins with Machbook Pro (1:57.3) in race 9 and Ms Moyse (1:55.1) in race 5.
Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. at Red Shores Summerside featuring the Governor’s Plate eliminations, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge.
