SUMMERSIDE, PE – The 2023 Atlantic Sires Stakes harness racing season for two-year-old pacing colts will kick off Thursday evening (Jul. 13) as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

With a 12-dash presentation starting at 6 P.M., the card will feature a trio of $11,420 A-divisions for rookie colts.

The first A-division starts in race 6 with Check Your Chip (Arthur Blue Chip – Toujours) the top pick with pylon control for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owners Greg and Lucas Bailey of Montague. The colt was a 2:01.1 winner in his qualifier. His main opponents on Thursday include Tobins Barn Party (To be driven by Jason Hughes) and Dunsan Harry (Corey MacPherson).

Little Leroy (Source Of Pride – Chorale Hanover) gets top billing in the second division in race 8 with Ken Murphy driving the Joe Baxter trainee for owner Boyd MacDonald Produce Ltd., of Crapaud. He won his qualifier in 2:00.3 at Red Shores Summerside. Merigo Magic (Adam Merner) is a top contender along with Jackies Boy (Heffernan).

The final $11,420 A-division lines up in race 10 and Tobins Chester (Shanghai Phil – Putnam MacKenzie) is the one to beat with post 4 for trainer-driver Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge. The colt is a brother to Atlantic Champion Tobins Brownie. He has five opponents including Roll Your Coin (Mike Mcguigan) and Peter Pang (Merner).

A pair of $4,000 B-divisions for two-year-old pacing colts line up in races 2 and 4.
