One Last Wish (Bettors Delight) took the first Ontario Sires Stakes Gold victory of her harness racing career and a new mark in a rich $199,900 sole division of the second leg for three-year-old pacing fillies at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (Jul. 18).
Paul MacDonell placed her in the pocket, letting Big Big Plans (Trevor Henry) put up a :26.4 first quarter before circling her to take over on the backside. One Last Wish reached the midway point in :55 and flew to three-quarters in 1:22.2.
Big Big Plans reemerged down the stretch and tore into One Last Wish, but the leader shook her off and drew away again to score in 1:50.1 by a length-and-a-half.
Lyons Bettorday (Louis-Philippe Roy) came from seventh in mid-stretch to beat favourite Cheesy Smile (Bob McClure) for show.
ONE LAST WISH REPLAY
One Last Wish is now three-for-eight on the year and has won six of her 19 career tries. The Ken Sucee-trained filly has earned $175,038. She won a leg of the Grassroots last year and finished third in the first Gold leg of 2023. Brian Legge of Toronto and Dr. David Legge of Ajax own their homebred.
Driver James MacDonald won half the card, including both two-year-old races. He guided Betting Line filly Elodie Hanover to a 1:55 win in her second start and Supplemental Fee (Courtly Choice) to win his second try by three in 1:54.
