Our Girl Annie (Arthur Blue Chip) notched her first Atlantic Sires Stakes harness racing victory of the year in the A division of the third leg for sophomore pacing fillies at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Jul. 26).

Corey MacPherson covered up the filly in third through the opening half, then pulled the first-up trigger on the backstretch to bring the battle to leader Woodmere Jade (Myles Heffernan). Our Girl Annie eclipsed her rival heading into the last quarter, and she grew her advantage to three lengths before completing the win in 1:57.1. Woodmere Jade held second over Summer Lovin (Jason Hughes).

OUR GIRL ANNIE REPLAY

Our Girl Annie bumped up her high-percentage lifetime record to 10-for-16 and increased her takings to $83,818. She has now won three of her past four, including the Frank and Beth Stanfield Memorial. Eddy Doucette trains the filly for Blaine, Jessica, and Jennifer Thibeau of Kensington.

In the B division of the leg, Howmac Jazzy Girl (Pang Shui) proved herself fit for the upper level with a blowout victory. In line to MacPherson, the filly kicked away in the third panel and flew home to a 13-and-a-quarter-length romp in 1:58.2. Jgsjumanji (Heffernan) was best of the rest. Whims Wonder (Marc Campbell) finished third.

HOWMAC JAZZY GIRL REPLAY

It was the second win of the season for Howmac Jazzy Girl, and it came after a period of mixed results. The Fred Paynter-conditioned filly hadn’t won since her seasonal debut, hitting the board three times in the nine starts following it. She is now four-for-18 lifetime with $16,210 in earnings for Paynter of Stanley Bridge, Carlee Paynter of New London, and Debbie and Neal Ramsay of Summerside.

Inverness Raceway will continue racing on Sunday, Jul. 30.
