Classy Royale (Royalty For Life) dominated her Ontario Sires Stakes Gold opponents to make it two-for-two in the harness racing series in a $102,200 division for rookie trotting fillies on Thursday (Jul. 27) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Staying out on the first turn, Jody Jamieson worked the filly to the front and let her do the work. The filly marched three-and-a-quarter lengths clear at three-quarters and added another length-and-a-half for an exclamation point as she cruised home to score in 1:56. No One (Bruce Richardson) was second-best, followd by Evolving (James MacDonald).
CLASSY ROYALE REPLAY
Classy Royale also won her opening leg division but went a second faster in Thursdayās win. Carl Jamieson trains the $27,000 Lexington Select sale purchase and co-owns her with Glengate Farms of Erin, Joanne Morrison of Beeton, and Roberty Boyce of London. The filly is now two-for-three with $106,650 in earnings.
Willys Home Run (Archangel, MacDonald), the other first-leg winner, also went back-to-back in the second division. She raced second-over into the far turn and showed the best late trot, storming by her previous cover and getting away by two-and-a-quarter lengths as she won in 1:57.1. R Liza (Jamieson) was a length to the good in second over Hit The Bank (Bob McClure).
WILLYS HOME RUN REPLAY
The winner, trained by Robert Kyle Fellows, has won both Gold attempts after placing in her debut for total earnings of $107,100. She races for owner Dr. Sara Gatchell and Jake and Reg Higgs of Strathroy, and N. Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood.
The other OSS Gold leg of the night, for freshman trotting males, saw two new winners break their maidens.
Elegant Resolve (Resolve, MacDonald) nailed Masstercraft (Trevor Henry) under the wire after riding his pocket in the first division. Stony Burke (Sylvain Filion) was comfortably third.
ELEGANT RESOLVE REPLAY
Elegant Resolve finished third on debut in the first leg. The Matt Bax trainee has earned $62,782 in his two outings to date. The gelding is owned by Bax Stable of Campbellville, Gaelic Stable of Sharon, Don Allensen of Wyoming (Ont.), and Happy Trails Stables of London.
Jack N Abs (Muscle Mass, McNair) pulled off an 8-1 upset as he went all the way in the second group. The Gregg McNair-trained colt completed the mile in 1:57.3 and stopped the gaining Mrstery Deal (Filion) three-quarters-of-a-length short. Soar Higher (MacDonald) completed the ticket. First leg winner Myretirementdream (Jamieson) broke just after the start and was never involved.
JACK N ABS REPLAY
Jack N Abs was fifth but beaten only two-and-three-quarter lengths in the opening round and came home in :27.2. The Gregg McNair-trained colt went for $122,000 at the London Classic Sale. McNair co-owns him with Brady Doyle of Stratford and Shady Hill Racing Stable of Durham. The colt has now earned $57,572.
MacDonald added three more wins to his OSS haul for a five-win night.
The freshman trotters will return to OSS action on Aug. 6 at Georgian Downs for leg three.
