A drop in class at Addington on Sunday (Jul. 30) can help Boudica (Sportswriter) get reward for the many miles she has travelled this year.
The Blenheim harness racing mare produced a tidy last start third behind American Me at the same track and she has hit the road again in the hope she can go two places better for trainer Tony Thomas.
That last start effort came after the mare had been freshened and after she had raced in tougher fields and the run pleased Thomas.
āI was quite happy with that run and she has come through it good,ā the trainer said.
āI think she could give them a bit of cheek.ā
The five-win mare chased more smart types home in her previous outings in Wheels Of Fortune, Joes Rock and Cya Art.
āAfter she raced in the group race (Country Cups Final) she got a bit of a respiratory thing and in hindsight I shouldnāt have taken her down south.ā
āBut it was a bloody good holiday.ā
āWe gave her a bit of a break when she got home and she has been good since.ā
Ricky May takes the reins behind Boudica, who opened the $2.50 favourite for race 6 before being backed into $2.00 odds.
Mavis Jones ($3.20) looks another key chance for May in race 2.
The Greg and Nina Hope trained trotter looks capable of winning going by her third placing two starts ago.
But the filly must bring her manners after breaking in her last start.
May also combines with Frankie ($3.80) who has won a trial leading into his debut in race 3.
Fearless ($4) looks a key threat for May in race 4.
The Darryn Simpson trained trotter broke in the score up of his last start but he produced strong form before that error.
A Guinness Rock ($31) looks the outsider among Mayās book after producing eighth and ninth placing in her two career starts.
