After six winless starts in 2023, former Breeders Crown and Kentucky Futurity champion, Amigo Volo (Father Patrick), notched his first win this season, capturing the $16,500 feature trot at Pocono Downs Sunday (July 30).
The 10th race feature got underway with Rich And Miserable (Tyler Buter) going right to the early lead with College Tuition (George Napolitano, Jr.) sitting the two-hole seat and Amigo Volo (Matt Kakaley) in third place along the pylons. The first quarter went in :28.1.
They raced single file with no challenger through the half mile in :57.2 and then the three-quarters in 1:25.4. There was still no movement until the leader started down the stretch and that was went Kakaley was able to urge Amigo Volo on with a :27.3 last quarter mile as he was able catch pacesetter Rich And Miserable at the wire to win by a head in 1:53.4. P L Notsonice (Marcus Miller) was third.
Trained since a two-year-old by R. Nifty Norman, Amigo Volo, who was voted the Dan Patch Three-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the year, is now age six and is owned by the Pinske Stable and David J Miller. He paid just $2.60 to win as the wagering favorite.
