The Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes for freshmen concluded on Wednesday, August 2nd at Ocean Downs with lone harness racing divisions for trotting fillies and pacing colts and geldings.
The trotting fillies went behind the gate in race 5 with Six Inch Heels (Six Pack) coming out of the pocket at the half to control the final fractions in the 2:00.2 mile, over Going Platinum and Family Riches. Reinsman Victor Kirby received the driving assignment from trainer Chris Freck for owners James Magno and Marita Berglund. Winbak Farm was the breeder.
In the pacing colts and geldings, Cloggs For Real (Rustys For Real) with John Wagner in the bike, cut the mile holding off challenges by several horses losing by a head to The Blue Easy at the wire. A judges inquiry reversed the finish order after reviewing the lapped on break made by The Blue Easy right at the wire giving the winner blanket to Cloggs For Real in the 158.4 mile. John Wagner trains the winner for owner-breeder Pam Wagner.
Sophomore Maryland Standardbred Fund races will be held on August 7thĀ and 9th.
