WASHINGTON, PA, Aug. 4, 2023 — While Friday’s (Aug. 4) stakes-filled card at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows figures to offer plenty of harness racing excitement, it’s notable for yet another reason: all 12 of the races are trots.
Records aren’t kept on such matters, but it may be a first for the track, which this year is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its opening. Roger Huston, retired longtime announcer for The Meadows who came to the track in 1976, says he can’t remember calling an all-trot card at The Meadows.
Highlights of the program are two stakes for freshman colt and gelding trotters: a $157,760 Pennsylvania Sires Stake and an $80,000 PA Stallion Series event. Those stakes account for seven races, with the other five events featuring the strong, locally based trotting population.
Friday’s trotting showcase will keep several trainers trotting — at the very least. Tim Twaddle has nine horses in to go while Steve Schoeffel sends out seven. First post is 5:10 PM.
