Monticello, NY—Monday afternoon at Monticello, fans witnessed the fastest mile ever for a two-year-old trotter, regardless of sex, in the track’s storied 65-year history when Senorita Palema (Chapter Seven) trotted to a new track record of 1:56.4. It was one of the most impressive and dominant scores in recent memory at the Mighty M.
Sophomore trotting fillies impressed in Monday’s (Aug. 14) New York Sire Stakes harness racing action at Monticello Raceway.
The final New York Sire Stake race of the day proved to be the fastest and went to Senorita Palema in the 8th race $35,200 division.
Amongst two breakers right out of the gate, Senorita Palema was in the lead on the outside with Jeannie’s Action on the inside in second.
Driver Mark Macdonald had Senorita Palema leading the way by three lengths at the half mile :57:4.
Senorita Palema then left the rest of the horses in the dust as she led by six lengths at the three-quarters in 1:27.1 and then went on to win in a romp by 14 lengths in 1:56:4, a new track record. Jeannie`s Action was second and Karolina Solveig came in third.
Senorita Palema is owned by Bender Sweden Inc. Ake Svanstedt is the trainer and she paid $3.10 to win.
SENORITA PALEMA REPLAY
In the $34,500 first division of the New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old fillies, Seven Year Itch (Chapter Seven) beat the favorite Sadbirdstillsing in a photo finish.
Tyler Buter and Sadbirdstillsing took the early lead with pocket trip Chapalonia on the inside second and My Special T trailing in third in the first quarter 29:4.
Sadbirdstillsing, who just missed by a head in the Meadowlands Kindergarten stakes, led the way by a length at the half mile in 1:00:3.
Suddenly, in a rush, Jordan Stratton and Seven Year Itch came to the outside and started after the race lead by the three-quarters in 1:31.
Those two would pull away from the field and make it a two-horse race to the finish with Seven Year Itch beating Sadbirdstillsing by a head in 2:00:1. My Special T was third, and Chapalonia came in fourth.
SEVEN YEAR ITCH REPLAY
Seven Year Itch is trained by Vernon Beachy and owned by Vernon Beachy, Ryan Smith, and Gitup Racing. She paid $6.10 to win.
Sister Mary Maude (Crazy Wow) claimed the victory in the $35,200 second division of the New York Sire Stakes.
Star Attraction went for the early lead with Sister Mary Maude on the inside and Erin moving up on the outside. At the quarter mile 29:2, 2-5 favorite Sister Mary Maude took the lead by a length over pocket stitting Star Attraction followed by Erin in third.
This was still the order at the half mile 59:2, with Sister Mary Maude maintaining that lead. Joe Bongiorno confidently drove Sister Mary Maude home in 1:58:3. Star Attraction was second, followed by Erin in third.

Ron Burke trains Sister Mary Maude for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Switala and Martin. She paid $2.90 to win.
