Coastal hangs tough for third straight win

WASHINGTON, PA, Aug. 16, 2023 — Coastal (Downbytheseaside-Pink Camo) threw down a swift 1:21.1 three-quarters and then dug in to hold off a pair of late challengers to preserve the harness racing victory — her third straight — in Wednesday’s (Aug. 16) $19,300 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino The Meadows.

Sent off at 8-1 despite her recent success, Coastal appeared to be coasting. But when the field turned for home, the 4-year-old mare had to find more to turn back Dewitt For Josie outside and Darby Hanover in the Lightning Lane. She prevailed for Jeremy Indof in 1:50.2, 1/2 length better than Dewitt For Josie, with Darby Hanover third.
