Alrajah One IT returns in Maple Leaf Trot

Mark McKelvie of Woodbine Mohawk Park announced that the Maple Leaf Trot, one of Canada’s richest harness racing trotting races, will go straight to a final on Sep. 2 with eight entrants.

Among them is Alrajah One IT (Maharajah), who came to North America from Italy and won three Grand Circuit stakes races last year in impressive style before ending his season early due to injury. The stallion’s last entry of the season was the 2022 Maple Leaf Trot, but he was scratched due to his injury before the race. The Ake Svanstedt-trained seven-year-old has qualified strongly twice, including a 1:52.2 mile over the Mohawk Park surface on Aug. 9.

McKelvie also announced that the Canadian Pacing Derby, with 17 entrants, will have two eliminations. The fields for them will be out later today.
