SUMMERSIDE, PE – The ‘Red Rocket’ David Dowling kicked off the Wednesday evening (Aug. 23) harness racing program on a winning note and kept it going all night long at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Race 1 saw Dowling click with Southfield Sandy from his own barn in 1:57.4 as his first of five wins on the evening. Race 5 was more Dowling with a front-end score aboard Starshipsalicia from the Kyle Williams stable in 1:59. Brother Mike Dowling trained race 7 winner Shes Rockandfame with driver Dowling delivering the 2:00.1 prevailing steer.
Well Lets See got up to win race 9 with Dowling driving for trainer Todd Hardy and stopping the clock in 1:59.4. The race 12 $3,300 finale was the last Dowling victory of the Wednesday card as Woodmere Ideal Art got up for a mild upset in 1:55.1 over Sauble Attack (Driven by Ken Murphy) and Frontier Cruise (Corey MacPherson).
The five wins moved Dowling up to third place in the driving standings at Red Shores Summerside.
Stonebeachlily (MacPherson) was a winner earlier on the program in 1:57.1 in race 3 for the first half of a Hardy training double.
Driver Dale Spence had a trio of victories including the two fastest trips on the card. The Tyne Valley reinsman sent Speed Snip down the road to clock a 1:54.2 win as the heavy favourite in race 8 for his wife, trainer MacKenzie Spence. Ifyoucouldreadymymind won race 6 for driver Spence and trainer Rick Armstrong in 1:58 while Flowersonthebeach was the best in the finale winning in 1:54.4 from the Jeff Wallace barn with Spence in tow.
Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. at Red Shores Summerside featuring the Lady Slipper stake for two-year-old pacing fillies, the Joe O’Brien Memorial stake for two-year-old pacing colts as well as the Island Oceans Trot Series, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables.
