CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A rescheduled Monday (Aug. 28) harness racing program was the recipe for success for “The Blue Knight” Jason Hughes with over a handful of winners at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Stratford reinsman started off his six-win night in a career moment for trainer Cole MacLaren as Malice Intent (Malicious) captured the opener in 1:59.2 for the young trainer’s first lifetime victory.

Race 3 was more Hughes action with Tobins Party (Malicious) winning in 1:58.2 followed by a 1:55.2 open-length by Shadows Terror (Shadow Play) in race 4, with both horses hailing from his own stable. Elm Grove Mistress (Articulator) was in familiar territory in race 5 winning off the front in 1:56.4 for driver Hughes and trainer Jennifer Doyle. Win number five was another from Hughes’ own barn with Century Invictus (Bettors Delight) scoring in 1:57. The final win of the evening was number six as a driver and number four as a trainer as Woodmere Sheldon (Stonebridge Terror) closed down the program in 1:56.4.

Corey MacPherson was also hot on the evening winning four dashes including Now Showing (1:56.2) for Leith Waite, Evil Vintage (1:58.4) from his own Cornwall operation and with the Melissa Rennie trained duo of Rose Run Quest (1:53.3) and Georgia Thompson (1:55.1). Rennie scored a training triple on the night as Kenny Murphy steered He Can Rock to a 1:58.1 victory in race 6.

Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
