Crossfit (Donato Hanover) defeated powerhouse Black Tie Bash to take the Rideau Carleton Preferred-Handicap Trot for the first time this season for new connections on Thursday (Aug. 31).
After floating out early, the gelding slotted into fourth. Guy Gagnon then put him back into play on the backside, tipping him out for a first over advance. He rallied on the outside of pacesetter Black Tie Bash (Robert Shepherd) and pocket-sitter Duke Lavictoire (Pascal Berube), and Crossfit finished best to win by half a length in 1:55.2. Duke Lavictoire eclipsed Black Tie Bash late for place.
CROSSFIT REPLAY
Crossfit has won six times this season, but Thursdayās win was his first in the Preferred ranks since November 2022. John Hopkins of Orleans bought the gelding after his last start and sent him to trainer Mandy Archer. The seven-year-old is 29-for-154 lifetime and has racked up $322,467 in earnings.
Rideau Carleton Raceway continues racing on Sunday, Sep. 3 at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
