Joviality triumphs in Sweden’s Trotting Derby

Joviality (4f Chapter Seven-Pasithea Face-Muscle Hill) earned a major harness racing victory in today’s (Sept. 3) Sofiero Bryggeri Svenskt TravDerby at Jagersro Racecourse in Sweden (purse to winner 2,000,000SEK or 168,000€, 2640 meters autostart, Gr.I National for four-year-old open trotters).

Race timed in 1.12.1kr the great filly (Dan Patch award winner in 2022), went off at 4.5/1 odds, left alertly for driver Erik Adielsson (and trainer Sabine Kagebrant) and then raced in the pocket behind then leading Barack Face (4m Ready Cash-Lisa America-Varenne) with Adrian Kolgjini aboard.

Joviality followed the leader until moving to challenge in upper stretch. She advanced to win easily over Barack Face that was off at 6.6/1 odds. The 83/1 longshot Love Keeper (4g Propulsion-Alicia Keeper-Conway Hall) ended up third with Stefan Persson the pilot. The 37/1 Global Dubhe (4g Brillantissime-Global Nova-Windsongs Legacy) was fourth for Peter Untersteiner while 7.6/1 Xanthis Harvey (4m Propulsion-B Glorious-Smok’n Lantern) landed fifth for the Orjan Kihlstrom/Daniel Reden team. The 3.7/1 favorite Dancer Brodde was a miscue dq.

On the undercard the 1.6/1 A Fair Day (4g Maharajah-Jolene Day-Glen Kronos) won the YTAAB (100,000SEK to winner, 1640 meters autostart) for Oscar Ginman and trainer Elisabeth Almheden) timed in a sharp 1.10.0kr. Laban Lago (5g Amaru Boko) and Special Topsecret (7f Mr. Pine Chip) followed the winner.

The Gr. I National Hjortkvarn Stallstro (purse to winner 1,000,000SEK, 2140 meters autostart) went to 27/1 odds Global Dancer (4f Carat Williams-Balett Sund-Muscles Yankee) timed in 1.12.1kr. Carl Johan Jepson teamed this Fredrik Wallin trainee to her ninth career victory in 26 starts. She now has life earnings of 2,181,500SEK. Second was Jennifer Sisu (4f Propulsion-Altesse Bourbon-Ready Cash) and third home was Mellby Korall (4f Maharajah-Mellby Akleja-Varenne).

The Menhammar Stuteri reported that Giant Diablo, dam of D’One, and Jalopy, dam of Panne de Moteur, had both died. The latter was trained in the US by Jonas Czernyson.
