Euchred (Shadow Play) wired the harness racing field in the featured Winners-Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Sep. 6).
The gelding, lightly raced this season, battled through the first turn to secure the lead from post two. Driver Walter Walker managed the fractions to :28.3, :57.3, and 1:28.1 with pressure mounting approaching three-quarters.
A three-pronged challenge emerged on the far turn, putting the leader to a drive. Jj Scarlett (Donald Gillis) presented the biggest threat from the pocket down the stretch, but Euchred held on by three-quarters-of-a-length in 1:58.1.
Jj Scarlett was second-best. Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland) charged from last to take the show money.
EUCHRED REPLAY
Eurchred has been a powerhouse in the East Coast open ranks in recent years but started his 11-year-old season in June. The 79-time winner was successful on debut, but his form dipped in July before returning to regular levels in August. He has raced nine times since Jun. 11 but twice in the past three days. Walker trains the gelding, who has earned $162,819 in 235 lifetime starts, for Kayla Walker of Inverness.
Inverness Raceway will continue racing on Sunday, Sep. 10.
