Not the rain, nor the sloppy track, not even the late charge on the inside from Amigo Volo could prevent M-M’s Dream (Swan For All) and harness racing driver David Miller from impressively winning the $250,000 Bob Miecuna Invitational Trot Saturday (Sept. 9) afternoon at MGM Yonkers Raceway.
The lone mare in the field against nine male rivals was made the 8/5 betting favorite and she raced like one at the extra distance of a mile and a quarter.
The 5th race got underway with Credit Con (Joe Bongiorno) first in front, then Amigo Volo (Dexter Dunn) took over the lead to the opening quarter in :28.3.
Then came M-M’s Dream and Miller and they made the lead easily before the half mile in :57.3. As they raced to three-quarter mark, Hillexotic (Yannick Gingras) came first-over and challenged M-M’s Dream through the three-quarters in 1:27 and then to the mile marker in 1:56.
At that point as they headed into the final turn, Take All Comers (Tim Tetrick) tipped three-wide as did Logan Park (Doug McNair), all coming after M-M’s Dream.
Down the stretch M-M’s Dream remained the strong horse despite a late challenge on the inside from the pocket-sitting Amigo Volo. M-M’s Dream stayed strong and won by three-quarters of a length in 2:24.4. Amigo Volo was second with Take All Comers third.
M-M’S DREAM REPLAY
It was the second straight win and sixth victory in nine starts this year for M-M’s Dream. The four-year-old mare is trained by Ron Burke for the Eleven Star Stables, Frank Baldachino and the Hillside Stables. She paid $5.40 to win.
“I really didn’t have a game plan going into this race,” David Miller explained. “I was able to get out to the lead with her and give her a good breather in the middle half. She has been racing well and she was strong right to the wire.”
