Champion harness racing driver Chris Lewis is on the verge of a remarkable milestone.
The Western Australian-based Lewis, best known nationally for his relationship with Hall of Fame pacer Village Kid, moved to 5995 career victories after a winning double on Sugar Shake (Bettor’s Delight) and Miss High Fashion (Art Major) at Pinjarra yesterday.
It is just a matter of days until the 68-year-old Lewis becomes only the third driver in Australasia to reach 6,000 career wins.
He will join the most elite company, with the others being Chris Alford
(7905) and the late, great Gavin Lang (6313).
Lewis has seven drives at Gloucester Park tonight, starting with $2.90 favourite Ponzi Beach in the opening race for his wife, Deb.
His other drives are: Major Overs (race two, $6); Stars Of Gold (three, $71); Lilly Laguna (four, $101); Belonero (one, $11); Trittitrittbangbang (seven, $10) and Stay Focused (10, $5).
Lewis then heads to Bunbury on Wednesday for another five drives: They
are: Spice Package (race one, $5); Heavenly Bliss (two, $4.50); Rockin Jetstar (three, $6); Jackpot Joe (six, $1.60) and Disco Dynamo (seven, $11).
From there, itās back to Gloucester Park on Friday night, which would be a fitting stage for Lewis to reach the magnificent milestone.
