Visitors take the spoils at Warragul

Visitors took most of the spoils at the Warragul trots harness racing meeting on Monday.

Husband-and-wife trainer-driver duo Maree and John Caldow collected two of the seven race wins with Our Miki Diva (Always B Miki) in the Alby and Nellie Quinlan Memorial Pace and Daimyo (Majestic Son) in the Ken Humphrey Memorial trotters’ event.

Both horses were well rated in their races by John, and good odds were snapped up by each-way punters.

Greg Sugars also collected a Warragul driving double. Shoobees Spirit prevailed in the first race of the day for the Cranbourne-based Jamieson Racing stable and three-year-old Aureus finished quickly for a last-stride win in race four.

The filly, trained by Greg’s wife Jess Tubbs, has now won six races from only 21 starts.

Sugars is driving during September as an ambassador for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, with each of his winners earning a $200 donation to the cause from Harness Racing Victoria.

Kilmore horseman George Schembri produced Paigethehurrikane to win the Rod Demmler Memorial Pace after she was well driven by leading reinsman James Herbertson.

The mare had raced without luck in recent runs, but from barrier one on Monday was able to overhaul race leader The Egg Counter to score a narrow win.

Fellow Kilmore pacer Maywyns Spirit won a 13^th race on Monday, at start 96 for trainer Ben Yole and talented young driver Taylor Youl.

Beeac horsewoman Courtney Slater doesn’t mind the long drive from the south-west to compete at Warragul meetings, and went away a winner with Goodtime Libby in the Gordon and June Turner Memorial Pace.

The filly has recorded two wins and a second placing in her three race starts this preparation.

The Next Warragul trots meeting is on Monday, October 16.
