‘Susan’ a name you wont forget after G1 Vicbred success

A new star was unearthed tonight (Sep. 16) at Melton after the Emma Stewart trained filly Susan Is Her Name (Sebastian K) scored a stunning win in the Group 1 Vicbred Super Series (3YO Trotting Fillies) Final.

Sent out a  $4 second elect, Susan Is Her Name galloped in the score up and gave her rivals an 80 metre start while shortly after the $1.65 favorite Rockinwithattitude also galloped when contesting the lead on the first turn.

Susan Is Her Name tacked onto the body of the field before Mark Pitt made a long sustained run with 800 metres to travel and the daughter of Sebastian K looped her rivals  storming home down the centre of the track to score  effortlessly by eight metres from Dichotomy and Sequence.

“She’s a very serious horse this horse,” Pitt said.

“It’s unfortunate that her manners were a little bit off tonight but she did get a good track into it but then she used her speed and I really think she is a top quality mare,” he said.

Pitt admitted he was concerned after settling at the rear of the field.

“I thought we were in a bit of trouble back where we were but once I pulled her out she felt really good and once she levelled out she went really well,” he said.

“The better horses she races the better she’ll be – in six or 12 months’ time we don’t know what she’ll do.”

Susan Is Her Name trotted the 2240m mobile journey in a time of 2:44.7 with a last mile in 1:58.7 and closing sectionals of 58.0 and 28.2. It was her second Group One success having taken out the Breeders Crown 2YO Fillies Final late last year, and her 4th from 9 race day starts.

The daughter of Sebastian K was bred and raced by Bruce Wyborn.

The win brought up Stewart’s fifth for the night and her 119th Group 1 success as a trainer and fifth on Super Series Finals night.
