After four tough starts against Grand Circuit competition, Southwind Coors (Walner) got back to the win column in an overnight harness racing event at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Sep. 25).

Southwind Coors completes his winning mile

Chris Christoforou sent the gelding forward nearing the half to take the lead from fellow Hambletonian starter Ghostly Casper (Tyler Borth). Southwind Coors led to three-quarters with Ghostly Casper threatening from the pocket, then sprinted home to a two-and-a-quarter-length victory in 1:53. Ghostly Casper was the only horse in his vicinity down the stretch and finished second. Busy Making Moni (Mark Etsell) closed for third.

SOUTHWIND COORS REPLAY

Southwind Coors won the Goodtimes earlier this year and lost a tight finish to Gaines Hanover in the Simcoe two starts back. The Grand Circuit type also made the Hambletonian final with a fifth-place finish in his elimination. The Matt Bax-trained gelding is five-for-22 lifetime and has earned $315,285 for owners Bax Stable of Campbellville, Glengate Farms of Erin, David Hudson of Dallas, and Craig Wilson of Burlington.

Richard Moreau harness four winners on the card, including Marshall Zhukov (Shadow Play), who extended his winning streak to five. The colt moved up to the Mohawk ranks in last week’s win and held on by a neck for a repeat on Monday. A Prospect Series champion last season, Marshall Zhukov is 12-for-20 with $77,240 in earnings for Michel Lagace of Terrebonne.

MARSHALL ZHUKOV REPLAY

Woodbine Mohawk Park will continue racing on Thursday, Sep. 28. The 10-race card will feature two divisions of the fifth Ontario Sires Stakes Gold leg for three-year-old pacing fillies.
