Plenty of muscle from Barron trotter

“Untapped potential” was harness racing driver Brent Barclay’s description of two year old trotter Bring On The Muscle (Majestic Son) after his win on debut at Gore today (Sep. 28).

The youngster has been well drilled by trainer Clark Barron, winning all of his trials and workouts. It was no surprise that he went out favourite today.

“I’ve used the Phil Williamson approach really. We’ve just taken our time and put him on the float when he needed a run. No pressure. He would get wound up if you wanted him to, put it that way,” Barron said.

Bring On The Muscle is raced by Barron’s wife Jackie and wears her late father Owen Crook’s colours.

“It brings back a few memories which is good.”

After beginning well from barrier one Barclay took the youngest straight to the lead and there he stayed, going on to win by three lengths from another first starter in Torquay Street (Father Patrick).

“He’s got unlimited ability. It’s whether his racing brain can match it but it did today which was good. The phone’s gone heaps of times since he qualified and they’ve started ringing again after the win today. I just leave it up to Jackie. I said if you don’t want to sell don’t panic (laughter).”

Bring On The Muscle is out of Mass Invasion (Muscle Mass) which won seven races for Barron. His daughter Ellie drove her grandfather’s horse in her last win on this track in December 2017. Ellie’s other win on the trotting mare was at Invercargill earlier in that month and was her second ever win.

BRING ON THE MUSCLE REPLAY

As a broodmare Mass Invasion has left Majestic Challen (Majestic Son) a three win maiden and En Masse (Majestic Son) which has won twice in Australia and finished second in the Queensland Trotters Oaks and third in the Queensland Trotters Derby.

The Barrons have a yearling full brother to Bring On The Muscle and a weanling colt by Creatine.
