SRF updates on helped horses

Cream Ridge, NJ -10/1/2023–The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) would like to share updates on a few of the recent horses that its supporters helped.

One in particular who was of great concern was the sweet mare Catrina. SRF has been told that she is very smart and exceptionally sweet. When the facility’s manager was holding her for the farrier she snuggled her head into her shoulder. We are puzzled as to why this lovely mare, who was in good weight and her feet in decent condition, was found tagged to ship for slaughter. SRF suspects, based on experience, that either her owner was ill; passed on, and sometimes the family doesn’t understand the love one may have had for a horse and sold or gave her away; or the owner thought he or she was giving her to a good home. Catrina is now very fortunate again. She has a home offer in PA once she finishes quarantine. It is quite far but this home is fabulous, she took Pearl, the mare that was in a great home for decades until it wasn’t a great home any longer. SRF took Pearl back immediately. A few months later she found the extra TLC and love she once knew. This is the home we hope to send Catrina to.

After checking all the mares for pregnancy, SRF is pleased to share that no babies are expected!

None are lame to any degree of concern as reported while in the kill pens. Their issues are manageable. OHYOUHOTTHING has rubs and cuts but will be fine with a little care. Bring Iton Mr. Rick is slowly recovering from the injury that needs time to granulate in. Chocolatini appears to have been in an accident. She is skinned up on one side of her body and is quite nervous. She will heal with time and care. All are having their feet and teeth attended to, are being wormed, fed well, and are enjoying their freedom from fear.

Everyone needs a home or a foster home. They are in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Kansas and Pennsylvania. Catrina and SRF would greatly appreciate donations to help provide for her ride to Pennsylvania from North Carolina. An eight-hundred-dollar uber was not anticipated.

With kind and generous supporters, these horses all have a chance and are grateful for it. SRF sends true appreciation to each and every one.

As for the social media debacle, it depends on the day and time. It has significantly impeded SRF’s ability to raise funds in this manner, however, this week SRF was able to help two others in need. Hopefully, this will continue without interruption. Emails with suggestions, and offers to help were much appreciated.
