Northfield, Ohio…October 10, 2023…Northfield Park held its weekly race for the Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association (GLADA) on Monday (Oct. 9) and, in an action-packed harness racing event, Larry Ferrari was awarded the victory with So Wishful (Wishing Stone) after an eventful journey followed by a disqualification of the “unofficial” winner, Another Breath, who was placed sixth after the judges’ review.

Stoney Ridgetop, handled by John Konesky III was moved up a spot to second while Longlivetheking, with Eric Miller in the sulky, was bumped up a notch to third.

Brigotto was also improved up to fourth while Golden Genes picked up the nickel on the “DQ.”

So Wishfull, beginning his journey from the inside post and fifth choice in the betting, was away in good order while staying off of an early skirmish between Mr Houdini and Another Breath as these two sped through early panels of :28.1 and :57.2 as a team.

Another Breath, handled by Floyd Rhodes, finally cleared mid-way around turn two but soon had company again as Long Live The King went surging after the leader and actually stuck his nose in front at the third station in 1:26.2

Meanwhile, So Wishfull, shuffled during that third stanza, found some room outside before ducking back in just behind Another Breath turning for home.

In the lane, Another Breath felt the heat from So Wishfull on his inside but seemed to be cut off as Another Breath drifted to the inside as he hit the wire in 1:57.3.

After review, the judges agreed and So Wishfull was awarded the win.

SO WISHFULL REPLAY

In a post-race interview, driver Larry Ferrari lamented, “My horse raced really well, especially after being off since late July and going in off a qualifier. He’s just a solid, reliable trotter and tries every time he goes behind the (starting) gate.”

Ferrari also trains So Wishfull for his wife, Kiesha, with this awarded win the fourth of the year, vaulting his seasonal earnings to $30,741 to go along with his lifetime best mark of 1:54.2 set this semester, as well.

The winner returned $14.00 to his faithful.

Northfield Park is the home for GLADA, whose members donate 100% of their earnings from driving to charitable causes benefitting racehorse aftercare and the development of these horses for second careers as therapeutic horses for “children of all ages.”
