South Australian trotter Aldebaran Dexta (Aldebaran Eagle) made a clean sweep The Lang Trot harness racing series when he led all the way in the Final at Geelong tonight (Oct. 21).

The winner of the two heats conducted at Warragul and Geelong, Aldebaran Dexta stepped cleanly from his front row draw and driver Greg Sugar rated the race to suit himself and respected postilion barely moved a muscle in the sulky at Aldebaran Dexta cruised to the line ahead of Good Heart and Herecomes Kyvalley.

The win completed an early treble for Sugars who has saluted in his first three drives at Beckley Park on Geelong Pacing Cup Night.

Sugars said the Ryan Hryhorec trained son of Aldebaran Eagle had improved his race track demeanour in the past fortnight since arriving from Adelaide.

“That was certainly a better effort as far as his tractability is concerned compared to when I drove him in the first heat of the series at Warragul,” Sugars said.

And Sugars predicts a bright future for the four-year-old who has won four of his past five starts.

“He’s heading in the right direction and for this grade of trotter it was a pretty impressive performance with the sectionals he carved out, so it’s certainly not his last win for sure,” he said.

“He’s certainly got a good motor obviously has been a little bit wayward at times but he’s heading in the right direction.”

Sugars admitted it was a thrill to win the second running of The Lang Trot which honours the memory of both Graeme and Gavin Lang.

“The Lang family were outstanding in the sport and their deeds speak for themselves, I was quite close with Gavin particularly in later years,” he said.
