CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The lead was the place to be in harness racing stakes action Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $14,850 Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series, presented by Standardbred Canada, saw a commanding favoured performance by Acefortyfour in 1:56.2 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge.
The $8,500 Island Oceans Trot Mares Series final, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, saw Jessiejesorjessica go all the way in a 1:59.4 clocking for driver David Dowing, trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. Doyle and Dowling also teamed up to win the Preferred 2 Pace with Mantario in 1:55.4.
The afternoon also featured trot action for the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders Stakes.
The $9,450 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s two-year-old filly trot division went to Dusty Lane Wee (Driven by Marc Campbell) in a 2:03.3 victory from the Lenny Myers stable for owners Garry MacDonald and Ronnie Gass.
Gettin Lit posted a 7-1 upset in the $9,450 two-year-old trotting colt division off the front in 2:01.3. Mike McGuigan trains and drives for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale.
Irish Ray grabbed his 19th career win from 20 starts in the lone $13,700 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old trot division for colts and fillies. Marc Campbell powered the trotter to a 2:00.4 victory for trainer Brent Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.
