The $9,500 Open Pace highlighted the Saturday (Oct. 21) night program at The Ville with Coalford Bythesea (Downbytheseaside – Stormy Novel) and harness racing driver Justin Irvine winning by open lengths in 1:55.1.
Coalfordbythesea and Justin Irvine left for the early lead, crossing right over off of the car and tripping the beam to the opening quarter in 28.1.
The team went on to fight off all challengers to a half in 56 2, three-quarters in 1:25.2 and they opened up down the lane to win in 1:55.1 over a hard-charging Catch Me Conrad who was second, and Skyway Rockatop, the lone mare, hanging on for the show dough.
Coalford Bythesea is owned and trained by Gerald Malady and the win was Coalford Bythesea’s 11th of his career.

Drivers Justin Irvine, Art McIlmurray and Charles Taylor all had driving doubles. Trainer Gerald Malady had a training double on the night as well.
