One of the richest harness racing stakes in the sport this Thursday (Oct. 26) was held at Harrah’s Philadelphia with Angelpedia (Cantab Hall) capturing the $56,250 Liberty Bell Series.
For three-year-old trotting fillies, the Liberty Bell was the 7th race main event on the program.
Angelpedia and driver Joe Bongiorno started from post four and shot right to the lead and they never looked back. They led to the first quarter in :27.1 with Cando Volo (George Napolitano, Jr.) leaving from post seven to grab the two-hole seat.
There were no challengers as Angelpedia led to the half mile in :57.4. Then going in the backstretch, race favorite Tipsy Moni (Tim Tetrick) came first-over but could not collar Angelpedia by the three-quarters in 1:25.4.
Angelpedia then held the field at bay as she started to pull away in the stretch, winning by two and one-quarter lengths in 1:53.4. The pocket-sitting Cando Volo held for second with Tipsy Moni third.
ANGELPEDIA REPLAY
It was the fifth win on the year for Angelpedia. The sophomore filly is trained by Jenn Bongiorno for co-owners Gilbert Short and the Ross Stables, paying $5.00 to win.
