CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Battling first-over for the final quarter-mile, Redlandbethanyjean (Artspeak) came out on top Thursday (Oct. 26) evening in the harness racing feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Brodie MacPhee was in the race bike behind the mare, and they overpowered the $3,000 finale field in a new lifetime best of 1:54.3. Plain Jane (Driven by Marc Campbell) did the roadwork in the Fillies and Mares featured Pace on front through stations of 28.1, 57 and 1:26.1 as the post time favourite.
Redlandbethanyjean was on the move first-over in the final half and surged forward at the end to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths for trainer Tom Weatherbie and owner Redland Farms of Bible Hill, N.S. Plain Jane was second ahead of third-place Elm Grove Mistress (Jason Hughes).
Jessiejesorjessica sat fourth in the $3,100 Open Trot but got up to deliver as the post time favourite in 1:57.3 for driver David Dowling and trainer Jennifer Doyle. Danny Birt of Earnscliffe owns the daughter of Justice Hall, who celebrated win number 42 of her career. Her stablemate, Glider Man (Hughes) was second with Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault) finishing third.
Live racing continues Saturday afternoon at 12:30 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. for the final card of the season at Red Shores Summerside.
