Harness racing trainer Brett Gray has confirmed that quality trotting mare Peregrine (Pegasus Spur) has been retired.

“She had a bit of arthritis so we sent her up to Regan Todd’s to do a bit of swimming and possibly race up there. Unfortunately, a few days ago we made the call to retire her. We gave it a shot, but it didn’t work out,” Gray said.

Owned by Penny and John Baynes, Peregrine won seven of her thirty one starts and was placed another seventeen times, banking $95,702. She was placed twice in Group races – second behind Love N The Port (Love You) in the G3 Southern Lights and second in the G3 David Moss Stakes to Wai Key Wee (The Pres).

She last raced at Addington in May, finishing seventh in the Listed Uncut Gems Trotters Classic.

Her last win was on Show Day at Addington last year when she beat Love N The Port in an R60 and faster handicap trot.

Brent Barclay drove her to win five races and Blair Orange and Tristan Larsen drove her for one win each.

“She was a big heavy girl who didn’t have a lot of starts but she had a bit of wear and tear.”

Gray said Peregrine will be served by Father Patrick.
