Hensley reaches 6,000

Harness racing driver Ed Hensley broke through on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Flamboro Downs, picking up his 6,000th career driving victory on the 10-race card aboard Order One To Go (Mystician) in the evening’s eighth race.

Leaving from the rail spot in the field of seven, Hensley left little to chance off the gate, utilizing the inside advantage to take command through the opening quarter in :28. Hensley backed the pace down in the second quarter, reaching the halfway point on top with Order One To Go in :57.4. Hensley hit the gas in the third quarter, opening up on pocket-sitter Fear The Dice and Brett Macdonald by over three lengths at three-quarters in 1:26.4.

Turning for home, the victory was never in doubt as Order On To Go continued to open up on the field, powering home in :28 to secure the victory by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:54.4 over Fear The Dice. Order One To Go paid $7.90 to win.

Ed Hensley co-owns Order One To Go along with trainer Ashleigh Hensley. Hensley’s 6,000th career victory came in start number 33,167 in a driving career that spans 37 years. In a career that has seen Hensley prevail in tracks across North America, Hensley has driven his charges to $36,562,711 in earnings.

Earlier on the Sunday card, Sicario (Holiday Road) delivered a powerful effort to take the $11,000 Preferred Trot. Driver Austin Sorrie cleared quickly to the lead from post four in the high-powered field of six to cut a sharp opening quarter of :27.3. Sicario secured a second quarter breather as Sorrie backed the tempo down to :57.2 at the half. Andy Over and Ed Hensley were the first to move from third first-over, however, Sicario took an opportunity to open up his lead in the third quarter, putting five lengths between himself and the field through three-quarters in 1:26.

Race favourite Andy Over continued to make up ground in the final quarter, but Sicario was able to coast home in :30.2 as his lead was too much to overcome, notching a 2-1/4-length victory in 1:56.2. Bucktober and Tyler Borth closed to round out the trifecta. Sicario returned $5.30 at the betting windows.

Trained by Richard Moreau, Sicario picked up his sixth victory in 35 starts this season and the 39th victory of his career. The eight-year-old gelding pushed his career bankroll to $382,438 for owners Pamela and John Hehn.
