It was a battle from the backstretch to the finish in the $32,000 3-5-year-old Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway Wednesday (Nov. 1) and when the dust had settled it was Greg The Leg (Huntsville) and harness racing driver Brent Holland who emerged victorious.
The 8th race feature saw Southwind Petyr (Joe Bongiorno) leave from post eight and work his way to the lead over Ultimaroca (Jordan Stratton) by the opening quarter mile in :26.2.
As they raced to the half mile in :56, Southwind Petyr continued to lead the way. Entering the backstretch, Greg The Leg moved first-over from fourth place and started after the race leaders, getting within a half-length of Southwind Petyr by the three-quarters in 1:24.4.
Parked out the entire last turn, Greg The Leg continued to advance and collared Southwind Petyr by the top of the stretch. Once in the lead, Greg The Leg would hold on down the stretch, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.2 over Hazeville (Daniel Dube) with Pleaseletmeknow (Matt Kakaley) third.
GREG THE LEG REPLAY
It was the 12th win on the year for Greg The Leg. The four-year-old stallion is trained by Michael Forte or owner Lester Gelardi, Jr. and paid $9.30 to win.
