The 76th Annual Fall Blooded Horse Sale saw a 13 percent year-over-year increase with an almost identical 300 harness racing horses sold vs 302 last year.

“We knew we had a good group of horses catalogued,” said sale manager Jerry Haws. “We appreciate the stables that consigned nice racehorses and the breeding farms that sent attractive mares, yearlings and weanlings.”

The Burke Racing Stable consignment included sale-topper Brookview Bolt 5,1:52s for $100,000 and runner-up Coastal p,4,1:50.2f for $85,000. Brookview Bolt, an ultra-consistent 5-year-old son of Swan For All with earnings of $130,250 this year while racing in the Open Trot at Hoosier Park, was purchased by Bill Rhoades of Pennsylvania.

“I needed an Open Trotter for Northfield Park and the Meadows,” Rhoades said. “He fits that class well; I’ll see which of my owners want a part of him.”

Though Coastal (Downbytheseaside) had just won the $85,000 Ohio Sires Stakes 4-year-old Mare Championship, she was purchased by Jonas Schlabach of Ohio not to race but to breed. “I own a share of Monte Miki and needed a good mare to breed to him,” he said.

Also in the strong Burke Racing Stable consignment was the rich and fast Uncle Peter trotting mare Favorite Aunt 4,1:54h ($202,634) that went to Steiner Stock Farm on a $53,000 bid.

Amanda Beaver brought the 3-year-old Indiana Sires Stakes-placed trotting filly Swan Fancy that was purchased by Ed Zubkoff (agent) of Michigan for $43,000.

The yearlings sold first and were led by a pair of especially beautiful ones from Dublin Valley Farm. What A Shot, by What The Hill out of the multiple Indiana Fair Stakes winner Earl’s Last Shot, was purchased by Ian Yoder of Ohio for $30,000; and Sunrise Instead, a daughter of Volstead out of the Indiana Sires Stakes-placed Sunset Girl, went to Richard Owings of Ohio on a $25,000 bid.

Spring Haven Farm brought a stellar consignment of broodmares that included the popular Ohio Sires Stakes-winning ML Cupcake, dam of multiple Ohio Sires stakes winners, all with “cupcake” in their name. In-foal to the promising young sire Volstead, the 15-year-old daughter of Master Lavec was purchased by Midland Acres for $36,000.

Somegirl Somewhere, with a Tall Dark Stranger colt by her side, drew spirited bidding. Leroy Burkholder of Ohio ultimately prevailed at $29,000. Consigned by Ruddick Stables as agent, the beautiful daughter of Somebeachsomewhere was back in-foal to Tall Dark Stranger.

Anvil and Lace Farm was agent for a fashionable group of five young trotting mares all in-foal to Volstead. Call Me Coco, by EL Titan, and Kenogami Love, by Muscle Mass, both sold for $28,000, going respectively to Leon A Miller and Melvin A. Detweiler of Ohio. Posh Spice, by Trixton, was purchased for $25,000 by Alvin W. Yoder of Ohio, Snickers Blue Chip, by Credit Winner, was purchased by Jonas Z Schwartz of Indiana for $22,000, and Infanta Deo, by Muscle Hill, was purchased by Jodi Siamis of Iowa for $21,000.
