Eight years between wins

Southland harness racing trainer Nathan Williamson won his second Macca Lodge South Of The Waitaki at Addington today (Nov. 17).

The last time he won it was in 2015, it’s inaugural year, with Statham (Bettor’s Delight). Today, eight years on, the least fancied of his two runners Mr Cash Man (Shadow Play) took out the Show Day feature in the hands of Mark Hurrell.

“Nathan said he couldn’t have been happier coming into this race, and he beat Advance Party (Bettor’s Delight) two starts back. He’s an honest customer that just lacks a bit of class, but he just tries all day. It was a good slog up the straight and he just kept going,” Hurrell said after the win.

MR CASH MAN REPLAY

The winning margin was a length from third favourite and stablemate Rise Up N Dance (Art Major) with Aint No Angel (Raging Bull) a head back in third.

“I’ve had a few drives in the race and it’s the first time I’ve won it. All the Southlanders target this race two or three months out from the race. It’s such a good stake.”

Mr Cash Man is raced by the Central Courage Syndicate.

“He was a horse on the rise and I was quietly confident. It worked out well because there was plenty of speed on. I was pleased with Rise Up N Dance, but he was probably entitled to win with the trip he got. He may have been down five percent on what he was on Cup Day,” Williamson said.
