The Methven Club hosts its Christmas Meeting this Sunday (Dec 03) kicking off just after noon with a maiden trot. The usual big harness racing fields and probable big divvies await punters who are astute enough to sort out the winners. The day is built around bar-b-ques, childrenās entertainment and relaxation before Christmas.
On the racing front one of the feature races is the DANCINGINTHEDARK M Ā 1.49@Aldebaran Trotterās Green Mile which in the past has been won by such luminaries as Monbet, Marcoola, Royal Aspirations, Oscar Bonavena and Time Up The Hill with the latter two likely to be at short odds to repeat in this yearās event.
Oscar Bonavena from 9 at the gate will be the outright favourite coming off a career defining win in the prestigious Dominion Handicap over Cup week at Addington. Others entitled to consideration include smart youngster Confessional (a past winner here) and the very reliable Mystic Max.
For those looking outside the square the best roughie would be the speedy Waikouaiti sqaregaiter Aveross Majesty drawn better than all the main hopes and with the services of Southlandās Brent Barclay. At times he has looked a potential top trotter but reliability has been his Achilles heel to date. His best performances have been on the grass and definitely a place chance at odds.
In other news with this being the last meeting of the year and Methven premierships decided after Sundays meeting leading driver is being led by New Zealandās number one Blair Orange interestingly the only feasible challenger is youngster Sarah OāReilly who is heading to Australia for a Junior driver series straight after Methven watch this space.
