Miss Idaho too good in the 2yo Southern Cross Fillies final

The lure of interstate riches may be enough to extend Miss Idaho’s (Ultimate Machete) season.

Miss Idaho

With the two-year-old eligible for a rich Vicbred bonus, trainer Ryan Hryhorec revealed Miss Idaho could head across the border before the end of the month.

Should connections elect to bypass a Victorian outing, Miss Idaho will be sent for a spell.

A decision is due to be made during the next few days.

“She still has a Vicbrd bonus to try and win, so that may happen before the season is over,” Hryhorec said. “I’ll have to talk to her owner to see what he wants to do.

“If she doesn’t have another start she will head to a paddock, but if she does go to Victoria, she’ll have a spell after that.

“I’ll give her as long as possible off and will most likely only target the three-year-old races next season.

“She’s only won against her own age, but it still puts on her a high National Rating of 75, which is going to make it harder next time she comes in.

“Even with the South Australian and mares’ rating concessions she’s up in grade.”

While it remains to be seen what plans are adopted with Miss Idaho, one thing is for certain – she confirmed her status as the best of the local crop with her victory at Globe Derby last night.

With Hryhorec in the cart, Miss Idaho was caught wide early from her second row draw before being sent forward to test the leader, Tilly Jane, from the ‘death’ seat.

Proving too strong along the home straight, the daughter of Ultimate Machete scored by a metre-and-a-half from the pacemaker, with Lil Miss Crocker 27 metres away third.

“She had to dig deep, but she got there,” Hryhorec said. “That will to win is an important attribute and she has it.”

Rating 1:56.1 over 1800 metres, Miss Idaho provided Hryhorec with the second leg of a driving double after combining with Illawong Martini to secure the Final for two-year-old trotters.

Beginning quickly to lead from barrier four, Illawong Martini accounted for Bishop George and Patricia Em in 2:04.3 over 1800 metres.

Trained by Robin Maguire, the filly took her record to four wins and three placings from 10 starts for earnings of $17,187.

“Finding the front into the first turn was the key to that race and she was on her best behaviour at the start, which made the difference,” Hryhorec said.

**FOOTNOTE:  HRSA wishes to advise that MISS IDAHO will be a 48 rated filly in the SA system in 2024
