Off the back of a Woodlands Stud bred trifecta in the $175,000 Group 1 New Zealand Oaks at Addington Raceway yesterday, it’s a great time to highlight the success of the stud and with the upcoming NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales just a couple of months away, you don’t have to wait long to find a Woodlands bred harness racing star of your own.
The two horses that quinellaed the feature race were purchased as weanlings for a combined amount of just $3,800 from the Woodlands Stud draft. The winner was Aardiebytheseaside, a daughter of exciting young pacing sire Downbytheseaside and out of a Christian Cullen mare. She was sold for just $1,500 and has done a great job to date for her owner Mike Tanev and trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer. The 3-year-old filly has now won over $220k in stakes and had 21 starts for eight wins and eight placings.
Second place went the way of the Sweet Lou filly Mantra Blue, who is also out of a Christian Cullen mare. She was purchased for $2,300 from the same weanling draft as Aardiebytheseaside. She is owned by Lynette Philpott and trained by Zachary Butcher and looks to be a filly with a big future ahead of her. Pacing into third was the Woodlands Stud bred and owned Kahlua Flybye who is by Bettor’s Delight and raced in partnership with our syndicate members and also trained by Steve and Amanda Telfer.
Looking forward, Woodlands Stud are excited to be offering another strong draft at the NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sales on Sunday 18th February 2024.
