Power And Grace (Holiday Road) proved her doubters wrong on Thursday (Dec. 4) at Flamboro Downs as the mare produced an 8-1 upset in the Preferred Trot to reach $500,000 in career harness racing earnings.
Co-owner Lormer McClure took the lines on her for the first time in more than a year and had her sprint off the wings from post four. The nine-year-old held control through panels of :28, :58, and 1:27.3 with none of her three on-gait rivals daring to challenge.
Power And Grace took her lead around the final turn, but pocket-sitter Midnight Mircale (Scott Young) and The Fixer (Stephen Byron) fired up to challenge her down the stretch. With one on each side, Power And Grace battled on and reached home with a neck to spare for the 1:57.1 victory.
Midnight Miracle edged out The Fixer for place.
POWER AND GRACE REPLAY
Power And Grace passed a half-million in earnings with the win, bringing her career total to $501,644. McClure co-owns the nine-year-old with Hartel Maintenance of Guelph, Brett MacDonald of Freelton, and Reg Higgs of Strathroy. The mare is now 57-for-180 lifetime.
Driver Scott Coulter had a grand slam on the night.
Flamboro Downs sees racing next on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 6:35 p.m. EST.
