Big upset in 120,000€ Prix Charles Tiercelin

The Prix Charles Tiercelin today (Jan. 7) at Vincennes, France (SWC 4 Ans, Gr. II International, 2700 meters, purse 120,000€, 13 starters all four-year-olds) saw a 42/1 odds upsetter, Kyrielle (4f Enini du Pommereux-Vahine du Goutier), score in 1.13.9kr for harness racing owner/trainer/driver William Bigeon.

The Claudette Bars bred mare won for the fifth time in her 24-race career now for 234,620€ earned.

The 7/10 favorite Koctel du Dain (4m Boccador de Simm-Ophelie) held second with David Thomain teaming the Philippe Allaire owned and trainer classy trotteur. Kapitano de Source (4m Ready Cash-Varina) was home third at 74/1 odds with Gabriele Gelormini driving the Tomas Malmqvist trainee for Ecurie Hunter Valley.

The 8/1 Kona de Beylev (4f Express Jet-Dina de Beylev) was fourth for reinsman Benjamin Rochard and trainer William Bigeon for owned Joel Seche. The 50/1 Kabaka de Guez (4f Eridan) was fifth for trainer/driver Nicolas Bazire and Ecurie Vautors.

The Gr. II Prix Gelinotte (International for three-year olds, 2175 meters, purse 120,000€, 13 starters) saw 8.8/1 Louisiane de Bomo (3f Ready Cash-Amerlia Jet-Quaker Jet) prevail narrowly timed in 1.13.5kr for driver Benjamin Rochard.

The William Bigeon trainee is owned by Joel Seche and now has earnings of 94,200€. The talented filly has four victories in five starts. Her second dam is the Workaholic mare Hippodamia that produced Reethi Rah Jet, the dam of Bold Eagle (5,124,087€), Cash And Go (347,608€) and Eagle Eyes (282,160€). This is among the best of the Wildenstein and Dubois pedigrees.

Finishing second today by a short head was 19/1 Lilas Castelle (3f El Villagio) handled by Mathieu Mottier for trainer Cyrille Buhigne with third going to the rallying 20/1 Foxylady (3f Trixton-Gilly LB-Supergill) reined by trainer Alessandro Gocciadoro for Philippe Allaire. Gilly LB produced Callmethebreeze (869.080€) and Palomar LB (224,815€). Allaire raced Callmethebreeze in Italy, France and Sweden and recently exported him to Australia.

The fourth and fifth finishers were 13/1 Lopigna (3f Alto de Viette) and 18/1 Little Strawberry (3f Uriel Speed).

The 11/1 odds Gold Voice (8f Jag de Bellouet-Lovely de Paris) was a nose winner of today’s Gr. II Prix du Calvados (monte Cornulier Q3, International 10 starters ages 4-11, purse 120,000€, 2850 meters) with Mathieu Mottier the winning jockey.

Fabrice Souloy trains the now 10-time winner in 52 appearances for earnings of 334,930€. Happy And Lucky (7f Ready Cash-Tosalima) was second at 6.3/1 with Adrien Lamy at the lines for Franck Leblanc and owner Daniel Josset.

The 21/1 Halfa (7f Offshore Dream) was third for jockey Alan Gendrot and owner/trainer Stephane Levoy. The 15/1 Vaprio (10m Adrian Chip) was fourth for Nathalie Henry and trainer Alesssandro Gocciadoro, with fifth to the 1.8/1 odds favorite Inshore (6m Real de Lou) and Alexandre Abrivard. Race time was 1.12.9kr off even fractions with the winner earning a Cornulier Prize ticket.
