On a frigid 14-degree Monday (Jan. 15) night, Kildare King (Trixton, Trevor Smith) won the $32,000 Open harness racing trot at Miami Valley Raceway. This was his second start since racing in the $600,000 Breeders Crown final in October.
The race started out with a rare occurrence – Scorecard Dan (Jordan Ross) got his head past the gate and was declared a nonstarter. Kildare King marched to the early lead, followed by The Hazelton (Chris Page) in second and Majestic Player A (Josh Sutton) racing in third. They came to the first quarter mile in :28.3 and half mile in :56.2.
Kildare King was holding on to the lead, with The Hazelton racing in second. From the outside, Scorecard Dan moved to challenge Majestic Player A for third. They passed the three-quarter mile in 1:24.3.
As they turned for home, The Hazelton popped out of the pocket to try to catch up to Kildare King, but Kildare King crossed the wire first in 1:52.3, three lengths ahead of The Hazelton. Flemsteen (Tyler Smith) finished in third.
