CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The start of 2024 has been spectacular for harness racing trainer Trevor Hicken as his charge, Rollwithhottytoddy, won another Preferred Pace Saturday afternoon (Jan. 20) to keep his barn undefeated at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Montague trainer doubled up for the third time in as many cards this year as Logan Behold (Driven by Adam Merner) won his third straight in race 11 then Rollwithhottytoddy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) had to switch up tactics again to be victorious in the $3,600 Preferred Pace in race 12.
Blood Money won the early tussle in the top class to strike the lead in line to David Dowling while Rollwithhottytoddy ducked into fourth. Blood Money was at the quarter in 28 before a slight breather to the half in 58.2 with Rollwithhottytoddy moving into the outer flow to quickly advance and hit the front at the three-quarters of 1:28.3. Rollwithhottytoddy then sprinted away to an open-length win in 1:57.4 over Mantario (Damian MacLellan) and Laughagain Hanover (Jason Hughes). Hicken also owns the winner and now sits in a tie with Jeff Holmes for top trainer at the Capital oval in 2024 at six wins each.
The Race 6 Rotary Radio Bingo Volunteers Pace went to Judicial (1:59.2) as part of a double for trainer Harold Shepherd and his son, driver Patrick Shepherd. The Shepherd duo also celebrated in the winner’s circle with Sports Icon (2:00.4) in race 7.
Ken Murphy had the hot hands on the day with three winners. The Harrington driver scored with Redland Sampson (1:58.2) for trainer Clifford Murphy, Pictonian I Am (1:56.4) for Robert Phillips and Stonebeachlily (2:00) from the Todd Hardy barn.
The wager was $112,515. Live racing continues Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12:30 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
