Monticello, NY (January 29, 2024) – Jim Taggart Jr. the leading dash winning driver of 2023, had his best day so far of the young 2024 harness racing season this Thursday (Jan. 25), when winning over half of the card, reining six winners on the 11-race card, three of the winning drives came aboard his brother Shane’s mounts.
He started the day by taking both halves of the early Daily Double with Banderas Hanover (American Ideal, Shane Taggart) 1:56.3 – $21.80 and with Mach Time N (Mach Three) 1:58.2 – $2.40. Gold Vintage (Western Vintage, Shane Taggart) was next up with a 4-length score in 1:58 – $3.80 win, #4 was with the Bob Lounsbury-trained Commondiscourtesy (Sagebrush) 1:57.1 – $3.60. Taggart came back in the following race and scored with Twisty Wheat (Huntsville) 1:58 – $8.00 for his second straight win, Getaway (Revenge Shark, Shane Taggart) would account for the last winner of the day in 1:59.3 – $25.80.
In the driver standings, Michael Merton stands atop of the leader board with 16 wins, flowed by Jim Taggart with 14, the other side of the ledger for trainer’s shows Danny Gill and Robert Lounsbury both tied with seven wins each.
Wagering on the card was exception the 11-race card generated $935,182, with a per race average of $89.200.
