Sydney based businessman Glen Holland has been racing horses for the past 15 years and many of his purchasers have come from the Annual APG Sales.
In February 2018 he attended the Sydney APG Sale [the first at the new Inglis Complex at Warwick Farm] and purchased an Art Major filly for $45,000. This full sister to For A Reason 1.49.4 and the smart mare Lettucereason 1.55.9 was named Left For Dead but unfortunately after injuring a knee she did not race.
Well, the income from this purchase is about to start flowing for Glen – now from Left For Dead the broodmare.
Glen’s business model in Harness Racing has changed somewhat in recent times after purchasing a horse property at Bundanoon in the NSW Southern Highlands region.
The Pacing stock he is breeding will now be sold under the Trading name of Rampant Pty Ltd, whilst he will continue to race Trotters as a hobby.
Speaking of which, Glen has just imported a 3-year-old Trotting colt by Walner from North America. Racing under the unlikely name of Goat, he was a Stakes winner at Lexington, Kentucky last season. So, a name to watch out for on Australian tracks later this season.
So now back to Left For Dead – her second foal, a correct and tall colt by Bettors Delight will go under the hammer at the APG Melbourne Sale on 4th February as Lot 161.
This colt will cause all kind of excitement as he is in fact a three-quarter brother in blood to Australia’s greatest Pacer at the moment in Leap To Fame 1.49 [also by Bettors Delight from a full sister to Left For Dead].
Leap To Fame’s earnings now stand at $1.806 million from just 40 starts, so the sky is the limit for this courageous Grant Dixon trained entire.
Of course, the Dam of Leap To Fame has also produced another handy horse called Swayzee 1.52 $899,314.
You cannot buy a brother to Leap To Fame as the cupboard is bare so this Lot 161 then becomes a gilt edged investment for someone with a tidy sum of dollars to invest. The colt has a pedigree so strong that a Stud career could beckon following a successful racing career.
Everything is in place – even the cross of Bettors Delight over Art Major mares is in your favour as horses such as these can prove.
- Tall Dark Stranger 1.47.2 – $2,365,549
- Leap To Fame 1.49 – $1,806, 832.
- Max Delight 1.50 – $942,424
- Speak The Truth 1.51.7 – $380,677
- Major Delight 1.50.3 – $594,378.
The Colt, Lot 161, was born and raised in Victoria so he is Vicbred eligible.
He has been in the care of leading NSW [Wagga] horseman Roger Strong for the past 4 months, so will leave Roger to have the final word on this exciting colt.
“I can’t fault him on his conformation. He has been a smart and kind horse to work with as well, learns everything very quickly. One of the nicest yearlings I have prepared for Sale over the years.“
