Mare circles field in final eighth

If Only Id Known (Shadow Play) blew by every harness racing rival in the stretch to win the final Fillies and Mare Preferred of the Century Mile meet finale on Friday (Feb. 2).

The mare sat fifth from the start to the stretch for David Kelly and was yet to fire as the field came into the mid-stretch. But the mare hit her stride in the final eighth and exploded past all five horses to win by a length-and-a-half in 1:53.3. Outlaw Allie Oops (Nathan Sobey) finished second over Jakara (Kelly Hoerdt).

IF ONLY ID KNOWN REPLAY

If Only Id Known’s win was her first in three attempts on the season. John Chappell trains the mare for Christopher Lancaster of Airdrie and Velda Olding of Abbotsford. The six-year-old is now 17-for-78 lifetime and has earned $186,333.

The final card of the season at Century Mile is set for Saturday, Feb. 3. Racing will start at 6:15 p.m. MST.
