Aldebaran Park principal Duncan McPherson can scarcely contain his excitement around Lot 271 in the upcoming 2024 Nutrien Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

The yearling in question is Aldebaran Miguel who is a son of the ill-fated stallion Aldebaran Eagle and the royally bred broodmare Mason Magic.

Aldebaran Eagle succumbed to a long illness two years ago however he has managed to leave his mark in the breeding barn as the Leading 2YO Trotting Sire last year and is the Leading 3YO Trotting Sire this season.

The son of Muscle Hill finished eighth on the All Aged list with only three crops of racing age.

Mason Magic, a daughter of multiple Group 1 winner Sumthingaboutmaori, is the dam of the Group 1 winning filly Aldebaran Misty and the multiple Group 1 place getter Aldebaran Miley.

“Based on conformation, type and looks Aldebaran Miguel is the best colt Aldebaran Eagle has put on the ground at Aldebaran Park,” McPherson said.

“We know what he should bring in the sale ring, and if not,  then we will take him and race him,” he said.

McPherson said Aldebaran Miguel will commence being prepared for the April Yearling Sale early this week.

Meanwhile McPherson reports Aldebaran Park’s new stallion Dancinginthedark, the fastest two-year-old trotter to come to Australia, has served more than 75 mares in Australia and New Zealand.
