Caviart Camden (Huntsville), at two, became the fastest harness racing colt in the history of the sport, pacing 1:48.3. Since then, the horse has overcome a collection of issues, in fact he only raced 13 times in 2023 winning one time.

Caviart Camden in prior win

In 2024, the now five-year old is finding his form again. Ironically, he’s doing it some 40 minutes from the home of his original owners and breeders, Buck and Judy Chafee of Caviart Farms in Vienna, Virginia.

It was a trip to Rosecroft that originally gave the Chafee’s a love for the standardbred game, as cited by Murray Brown in a column on Harness Racing Update.

In Thursday’s $12,000 Open I Handicap, Tyler Miller was following along second over until the final turn and tipped three wide and eventually caught the pace setter Marco Beach (Eric Davis) in 1:51.2.

CAVIART CAMDEN REPLAY

It was the third win in five starts in 2024 for the winner now owned by Friendship Stables LLC and trained by Maria Alvarez. Miller would score in the finale for Alvarez and owner Ronald Retting-Zucchi as Stick With Cramer escaped the pylons on the final turn and launched a five wide rally to win.

Davis won three times on the card. Jared Moyer, Roger Plante, and Russell Foster all won twice. Moyers second win came in the Open II pacing category with Sea Of Life (Captaintreacherous) for Owner-Trainer Steve Wetzel. He has now been on the board in seven straight starts dating back to 2023.
